Processor: Motorola 68000 @8MHz
OS: TOS 1.02 (aka 1.2). Upgraded to 1.04 (aka 1.4) via EEPROM.
This was my second computer after the Acorn Electron. The very same machine is still with me and in (as far as I know!) working order. These things do have a tendency to break on their own 🙂
It has a double-sided, double-density floppy drive, unlike earlier models which had just a single-sided drive. However, it shipped with an older version of the TOS operating system ROMs (1.2 vs. 1.4).
Its stock 512K was pretty limited, so at some point it was upgraded to 1MB via a Marpet Xtra RAM Deluxe board. This upgrade used socketed boards to sit under the ST's shifter and MMU chips, linked via ribbon cables to a board carrying four SIMM sockets. I had 2x256KB SIMMS in there to bring the machine up to 1MB total.
After years in the loft, I cleaned it up and added four cheap 1MB SIMMs, disabling the on-board RAM, to max it out at 4MB. Also, it got a nice new Centuriontech.eu power supply and an UltraSatan Mini for SD storage.
At some point, the floppy drive had been replaced with a PC drive, and so sadly the case has been cut around the eject button. So it's not entirely unscathed. But it's pretty tidy-looking!
